Spring 2010 Season News

Parents:

 The ZASA governing board convened, March 8, 2010, to assess the playing situation for the spring, 2010 soccer session. Although the spring season has not begun, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and uncertainty you may be experiencing. We have been presented with factors beyond the control of our available resources. The spring 2010 season was beginning February 27, 2010 and concludes April 17, 2010. Prior to scheduling the February 27, 2010 games, field work days were scheduled by the ZASA President and unfortunately experienced low turnout. The weather conditions over the 2009 winter proceeding into 2010 have not been cooperative with field preparations. On February 13 – 14, 2010, the Ultimate Frisbee organization conducted a Frisbee competition at Doyles Bayou Park which destroyed several fields utilized by ZASA. Area soccer clubs, who we participated in playing this past fall, did not field clubs this spring which has resulted in challenges with scheduling. Finally, this spring, we have encountered challenges with player attrition with the early upstart of other area spring recreation sports.

The ZASA governing board decided to suspend all scheduled games and not cancel the season. We agreed to conduct the games following a ‘flexible schedule’, which essentially allows coaches, with an adequate amount of players to schedule their own games pending notification to the ZASA governing board. Considering this method, we are still attempting to provide the children with an opportunity to play and enjoy soccer, and develop their soccer skills.
